What does the ideal YOU look like in three months or six months? How about in a year? Now, how do you get there? Creating a wellness vision will bring your wellness goals and vision into alignment to give you the clarity, direction and motivation needed to reach your goals long term. When you start with a vision, it’s much easier to take aligned action steps towards a healthier you. It also helps you have more clarity as God leads and aligns your steps in the journey. Let's get started!
A wellness vision is your desired end goal, a clear image of what you want to achieve by focusing on your health and wellbeing. It is a description of your ideal place to be when your health and wellbeing are optimized.
A wellness vision is a compelling and positive, well thought out statement that is verbalized in the present tense, as if it is already achieved. A wellness vision is a roadmap for you to follow that mainly involves your health, but it also includes the bigger picture and what is impacted by your improved health, such as work, relationships, and family. It captures how you want to feel, act, and show up for yourself and others. More importantly, it uncovers the why beneath these desires.
Furthermore, your wellness vision serves as your foundation for goal setting. Instead of following an arbitrary list of “here’s what to do and what not to do”, you create action steps that align with your vision. Remember, health and wellness is individual to you and specific to your needs. What works for one person might not necessarily work for you. It’s about figuring out what “optimal health” looks like to you and creating a wellness routine based on this.
- When my health is optimal, what would my life look like?
- What would my day to day look like?
- What would be different from now?
- How am I feeling?
- How does my body feel?
- Who am I spending time with?
- Why is this important to me?
Here is an example of a wellness vision: "I am fit and physically active every day. I sleep well at night and wake up with energy, which stays high throughout the day. I am eating more whole foods and less sugary, processed foods. I am living a more simple and joyful life, which makes for more and better-quality family time. I have a better work-life balance. I feel present, content, and grateful. I am more intentional in my prayer time and spending quality time with the Lord”.
The first thing I teach my clients at Better Together Health and Wellness is how to create a wellness vision. It’s this vision that will push you to keep moving forward on your wellness journey even when you lack motivation. It will help to fuel your excitement and passion to reach your overall goals. In short, it’s the compass that guides you on your life journey of wellness.
Make sure you put your wellness vision somewhere visible so you can see it often to remind yourself why you started this journey. Whenever you feel stuck, refer to your wellness vision, and repeat it back to yourself as needed to help keep you motivated.
